Day 1

Depart south from Addis Ababa via Butajira. You will arrive at the Bale Mountains National Park headquarters in the afternoon, in time for a leisurely afternoon hike, possibly spotting two endemic mammals that frequent the area - Menelik's Bushbuck and the Mountain Nyala. Birds in this area include the Blue-Winged Goose, the Spot-Breasted Lapwing, the Abyssinian Long Claw, the Black-Headed Siskin, and numerous other species. Overnight in Dinsho.

Day 2

Spend the morning enjoying the walk around Dinsho where you will spot the Mountain Nyala and Menelik’s Bushbuck. Then you will go for your first horse ride to enter into the park. While riding through the park, there will be a chance to see the endemic Ethiopian Wolves. You will also stop by Habera Waterfalls for a nice break. Overnight Camping at Sodota Campsite. (5-6 hours ride)

Day 3

Today, you will ride a horse to Wasama through a beautiful landscape with stunning views. Pass through Mararo Valley where the Lammergeyer and Verraux Eagles keep their nests. There will also be a chance of seeing the Ethiopian Wolf and other species of birds. Overnight Camping in Wasama. (6-7 hours ride)

Jour 4

Today, you will take a ride to Gebre Gurracha. Start the day by going up to Mt. Wasama (4200m) and then continue down into the Worgona Valley. Falcons, raptors, and possibly the Ethiopian Wolf will be visible. End the day at Lake Gebre Gurracha, meaning “black lake” in the local Oromiffa language. Overnight camping by the Lake. (6-7 hours ride)

Day 5

In the morning, take a short ride from Gebre Gurracha up to the Sanneti Plateau (4000m) which is also known as the island in the air. In addition to its spectacular commanding views, this is also the best place in Ethiopia to view the Ethiopian wolf. Then your driver will meet you at the Sanneti Plateau to drive you to Goba. Overnight in Goba.

Day 6

After breakfast, you will drive to the Harenna Forest. This is in the southern end of the park and holds a unique variety of vegetation. The Harenna Escarpment towers 2000m above the edge of the forest and provides stunning views. Then you will drive to Awassa for an overnight.

Day 7

In the morning, take a boat trip on Lake Awassa to visit hippos. You can also visit the local fish market on the shores of Lake Awassa. Then continue driving to visit the Abiatta-Shala National Park. Lake Shala, with its deep blue waters is the deepest lake in Ethiopia at 236m. Lake Abiatta is a soda lake at which thousands of flamingos can be seen at various times of the year.
